Faculty members receive support from CFC, and each other, as they shift to online teaching

One of the many enjoyments Western Carolina University faculty members receive from teaching is the relationships and interactions they have with students. It’s also one of the things they will miss most now that the university is switching to online classes beginning Monday, March 23, and likely remaining for the remainder of the spring semester because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Western Carolina University administrators are urging students who are suffering extreme financial distress because of displacement caused by the coronavirus to apply for financial assistance from the university’s Student Emergency Fund.  

Searches for provost, advancement vice chancellor on hold because of COVID-19

The search for the university’s next provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs is suspended indefinitely, while the search for the next vice chancellor for advancement has been postponed and will resume later this spring, if conditions related to coronavirus allow.  

WCU to offer new master's degree in experiential and outdoor education

The program is designed for professionals and those seeking careers in positions such as environmental educators, camp directors, wilderness therapy instructors, park rangers and outdoor adventure instructors.  

WCU moves closer to beer, wine sales at sporting events; trustees OK tailgate area changes

Catamount athletics fans will find two noticeable changes to the gameday experience at Western Carolina University when the fall football season rolls around in September, including the sale of beer and wine in the stadium and changes to designated tailgating areas.  

Board of Trustees approves new WCU policy for naming of programs, facilities

The action by the board came at its quarterly meeting Friday, March 6, and follows recent high-profile situations in which institutions decided to remove the names of individuals after past allegations or incidents came to light.  

Mountain Heritage Center to host Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist on campus

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED. José Galvez will present a program about his photo exhibit “Al Norte al Norte: Latino Life in North Carolina” on Friday, April 3.  

Research and Scholarship Conference combines Undergraduate Exposition and Graduate Research Symposium

The event will be held Wednesday, March 25, and Thursday, March 26. The RASC is WCU’s largest showcase for both graduate and undergraduate academic, research and creative work for the year.
