Proctoring

Information for WCU Students

Western Carolina University is committed to academic excellence and integrity. Western Carolina University online courses may require proctored exams or writing assignments. This means that a student is monitored by an approved person, or proctor, while taking an exam. The use of proctored exams is determined by the instructor. The course syllabus will indicate if proctored exams are required. This means that a student is monitored by an approved person, or proctor, while taking an exam.  This is at the discretion of the program or individual faculty.  

Western Carolina University has purchased access to Respodus Monitor.  All faculty teaching an online class may elect to use Respondus Monitor for online quizzes or exams in Canvas.  Students can view the IT Resource Guide on Respondus for assistance with this system. Online programs may also designate other proctoring options such as the use of another third-party provider or use of a recognized testing center. 

Western Carolina University has a Professional Testing Center offering proctored exams for Distance Learners. Western Carolina University’s Testing Center offers professional test proctoring for any distance learning student regardless of the college, university or school you attend.Students will need to schedule their exams as early as possible, but at least two weeks prior to the scheduled testing date(s). They may schedule their proctored exam by telephone 828-227-7397 or by email. Students requiring a change within the 14 days preceding the exam will need to contact Professional Testing for scheduling options.
