An official academic transcript is a complete and accurate reflection of a student’s record. It contains all coursework taken while enrolled at Western Carolina University.

Due to the Family Educational and Privacy Act of 1974 (which prohibits the release of academic records without the written consent of the student), we CANNOT accept requests by telephone.

General Information



  • The cost of a transcript varies depending on format and delivery option chosen at time of order. The base fee is $10.50.
  • Current students who request a transcript through their myWCU account may incur a charge based on the format and delivery options chosen but will not be charged the base transcript fee.
  • Print and PDF options are available depending on date/s attended. PDF option includes tracking.
  • Transcripts will not be issued for persons having delinquent accounts with the university. Staff in the OneStop are available to assist students with delinquent accounts, (828)227-7170.

Former Students

  • ORDER A TRANSCRIPT ONLINE   using a debit/credit card. Most transcripts ordered are fulfilled the same or next business day.

Students picking up transcripts must present a valid picture ID. A second party who has written authorization from the student and a valid picture ID may pick up a requested academic transcript.

ACCREDITATION

Western Carolina University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. In addition, the individual colleges and departments are accredited by various associations within their respective fields.

ACADEMIC CALENDAR

Effective Fall 1977, WCU changed from a quarter calendar to a semester calendar consisting of a fall and spring semester. An academic year consists of two semesters of fifteen weeks each. During the summer term, sessions vary in length.

PARTIAL ACADEMIC RECORDS

Effective the Summer Semester, 1987 academic records at WCU were converted to a computerized system. Transcripts may be generated from both electronically and manually maintained records.

CLASSIFICATION

Freshman: 0-29 hours

Sophomore: 30-59 hours

Junior: 60-89 hours

Senior: 90 or more hours

ACADEMIC STANDING

Notation of Academic Suspension designates the student has not met required academic standing and cannot continue enrollment.  Notation of Academic Probation designates the student has not met required academic standing and must meet specific guidelines to continue enrollment.

TWO-YEAR RULE APPLIED

Notation of XG (exclude grade) or XC (exclude credit) followed by earned grade indicates the two-year rule application. 

REPEATED COURSE

Notation of (RX) indicates the course has been repeated and the grade has been excluded from the GPA calculation. Notation of (RI) indicates the grade has been included in the GPA calculation.

TRANSFER CREDIT

Notation of “T” followed by the official grade A, B, C, etc. Only courses with a grade of “C” (2.0) or better are accepted.  Transfer credits are not computed in a student’s GPA.

DEAN’S LIST

Noted each semester for undergraduate students who have a GPA of 3.50 or higher on a regular semester’s work of not less than twelve hours, excluding remedial courses, with no grade of D+, D, D-, F, or an I at the end of term grading.

TRANSCRIPT VALIDATION

The official transcript is printed on secure paper, carries the signature of the University Registrar and the printed unraised seal of Western Carolina University.

RELEASE OF INFORMATION

In accordance with The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, information from this document may not be released to a third party without the written consent of the student.
