As part of Western Carolina University’s civic engagement initiative, Assistant Professor Marie Cochran gave her Art 104 (Introduction to Art) classes an assignment to create a visual composition that addressed the following theme: “Vote: Your Future Depends On It” The goal of this project is to elevate the importance of registering and voting and to investigate the power of visual images. Students were required to be non-partisan and could not use images of any of the candidates. Instead, they were asked to chose important issues (domestically and internationally) and illustrate them in their work. The works on display at Hunter Library are a selection from a total of 140 entries. The work was juried by Reference Librarian Alessia Zanin-Yost along with MFA students Courtney Chappelle and Tracy Bochnak.
