The collection contains two letters to James Watson, a Confederate soldier in the 25th North Carolina Regiment, from his wife, Elizabeth Watson, and a friend, Alfred Wilson.  The Watsons and Wilson were residents of Hamburg, Jackson County, North Carolina.  In the first letter, dated October 29, 1861, Elizabeth Watson wrote of missing her husband, food prices, crop conditions, the scarcity of money, the family, deaths in the county, and the weather.  The second letter, written by Alfred Wilson, was dated March 8, 1862.  Wilson commented on food prices, the invasion of the South by Northern troops, and his desire for victory and peace.
