WCU Exchanges in China
The People's Republic of China (PRC) is the most populous state in the world, with over 1.3 billion people. It is the
world's second-largest country by land area and the third- or fourth-largest in total
area, depending on the definition of total area. Since the introduction of market-based economic
reforms in 1978, China has become the world’s fastest growing economy. As of 2012,
it became the world's second-largest economy, after the United States, by both nominal
GDP and purchasing power parity (PPP) and is also the world's largest exporter and second-largest
importer of goods. China is a land of many contrasts, ancient vs. modern, rural vs.
urban, timelessness vs. break-neck changes. Nevertheless, its importance to the future
of the world is undisputed, making it truly one of the best opportunities for a study
Chongqing Technical & Business University- CTBU is a public university consisting of three parts, of which the main part is located in at the foot of South Mountain by the Yangtze River in the Nan’an District, and is close to the National Economic and Technological Development Zone of Chongqing. The other two parts are respectively located in Dongjiaxi, Jiangbei District and Jingkou, Shapingba District.
CTBU has a teaching faculty with strong ability to teach and for research. It has an enrollment of about 16,000 four-year students and two-year students, and 9000 students in the College for Adult Education. It has fostered more than 30,000 four-year graduates and two-year graduates, and many of them have become key members in technology, management, scientific research and teaching and have made significant contributions to the national economic construction and social development. In addition, CTBU offers many classes taught in English, including courses in Human Resources Management, International Marketing, The European Union & Global Economy, Beginner’s Level of Comprehensive Chinese, as well courses on Chinese Culture.
Guangxi Normal University- GXNU is located in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in one of the world’s most beautiful landscapes within and near the historical and cultural city of Guilin. Guangxi Normal University comprises 3 campuses and has around 30,000 students. Many of their international students come from Viet Nam which shares a border with the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. There is 1 new campus under construction. GXNU sends around 30 students overseas each year and would like to send more. Guangxi Normal offers many classes taught in English and WCU students can study abroad there for semester or year-long exchanges. The College of International Culture and Education (CICE) of Guangxi Normal University consists of the Department of Chinese Language and Culture and the Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures, and supports international students and faculty coming to GXNU for long-term and short-term exchange programs. The CICE is responsible for enrollment and teaching international students and Chinese students studying together in joint-venture education programs. It possesses a multi-functional International Exchange Building, which is facilitated with a convention hall, multi-media classroom, computer network room, audio-visual room, sound laboratory, reading room, reference library, recreational center, cafeteria, etc. Its International Service Center can prepare rooms for a wide range of venues and can accommodate around 1,000 international guests with its good service.
Xi’An University of Architecture and Technology- XAUAT is located in the ancient city of Xi'An which has one of the richest and most culturally significant histories in all of China including the Big Wild Goose Pagoda of the Tang Dynasty in the south and the magnificent City Wall of the Ming Dynasty to the north, as well as the world famous Terracotta Army inside the Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum. XAUAT is a multi-disciplinary university of higher learning, with the specialties in Engineering, Science, Arts, Law, and Management. There 16 departments offering 45 undergraduate major fields. Among them, Architecture and Civil engineering have a long history. Metallurgy, Material Science, Computer Science, and Information and Auto-designing are also provided. XAUAT has become one of the most outstanding architectural universities in the country. There are more than 26,000 undergraduate students in the university and 3,600 students are in pursuit of their masters or doctorate degrees. XAUAT has successively established and maintained relationships of cooperation with universities in more than 40 countries and regions such as USA, Japan, Germany, France, Australia and Korea. Like WCU’s other exchange partners in China XAUAT offers a wide range of courses taught in English andXAUAT is also very eager to establish faculty and research-based partnerships with WCU in addition to our existing study abroad student exchanges.
East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST), originally named East China Institute of Chemical Technology and was founded in 1952 in the city of Shanghai. It was renamed to its current name in 1993. The university has developed itself into a national key university with technology as the major subject, and a coordinated development of subjects including technology, science, economics, administration, humanities and law.
Shanghai is the largest city by population of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and the largest city proper in the world. It is one of the four province-level municipalities of the PRC, with a total population of over 23 million as of 2010. It is a global city, with influence in commerce, culture, finance, media, fashion, technology and transport. It is a major financial center and the busiest container port in the world.
The total number of full-time students at ECUST has reached over 25,700 including 17,265 undergraduates, 6,956 postgraduates for master's degrees, 1,433 Ph.D. candidates. Clean Coal Technology and Petroleum & Chemical Technology are key disciplines at ECUST and are proposed to be first-class in these fields in Asia. The university has a Research Park called ECUST Park which includes 53 academic institutes, 8 national academic bases and 16 provincial research bases. ECUST is among one of the six universities that are firstly authorized as the national technology transference centers.
ECUST has three campuses: one in Xuhui District, one in Fengxian District, and one in Jinshan District. As one of Shanghai’s Garden Units, the university has beautiful campuses, occupying more than 1.767 million square meters with an elegant environment and green scenery. Buildings on campuses cover about 816,000 square meters, including some standard physical training establishments like gymnasium, swimming pool and plastic ground track field.
