The Coulter Faculty Commons Educational Technology team provides support and assistance with many forms of classroom technology tools, digital media, and online learning techniques.
The Sandbox is the CFC’s high-end digital media computer lab, open to faculty, staff, and graduate students Monday through Friday, from 8:00AM to 5:00PM.
Sandbox computers are loaded with a variety of design, production, and creation tools. The Educational Technology team provides scheduled and walk-in support for faculty, staff, and graduate students.
The Coulter Faculty Commons can provide both planning and creation support for digital media projects, including video, audio, graphic design, and publication design. Examples of supported tools include Final Cut Pro X, iMovie, Garageband, Audacity, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and iBooks Author. The Ed Tech team can assist faculty and staff with the fundamentals of video editing, audio recording, publication layouts, and more.

One of the most exciting new educational technology techniques is to create video resources for students to view outside of class. Western Carolina University’s tool of choice for this is Panopto. The Coulter Faculty Commons provides all faculty, staff, and graduate student support for Panopto, including course set up, video design, and troubleshooting.
The Educational Technology team also provides support for PollEverywhere, a virtual clicker and classroom interactivity and polling tool. To request a PollEverywhere account, click here. The CFC also supports the use of PowerPoint, Sway, Google Slides, Prezi, and other digital presentation tools.
Faculty and staff at Western Carolina may request WordPress sites on the faculty.wcu.edu domain. To request a WordPress site, click here. The Ed Tech team can also provide support on designing a site, the functionality of WordPress, and the basic use of HTML and CSS coding.
