Political science is an ideal field of university study. Exploring the political world is an exciting endeavor, and we have a corps of passionate and talented faculty who are determined to help every student appreciate the importance of knowing how our political world operates.
Studying political science prepares you for a lifetime of citizenship; it also provides
you with skills necessary to succeed in the new global economy. At the same time,
it develops skills for working in the information economy and imparts knowledge regarding
the functioning of governments from local to global levels. Through our programs, we develop writing, reading, analytical, and communication skills—all of which are
in high demand at home and abroad.
Each semester our faculty and students engage in formal debates on various political issues. In addition, the department offers a series of guest speakers, movies, picnics, and pizza parties throughout each semester. The highlight of our year, however, is the Political Science Annual Spring Banquet where we honor our departmental student award winners.
We often send majors to present their research at the National Conference on Undergraduate
Research (NCUR). These opportunities provide hands-on experience in presenting your
research before peers. Along with this support, we also have great success placing
students in top law schools and graduate programs throughout the region.
If this program appeals to you, please contact the department, or visit us in person. I look forward to meeting you.
