Our assembly system employs levels of automation ranging from simple PLC controlled pick-and-place robots to color vision and TCP/IP control networking. The equipment used in this laboratory is the same production grade equipment used in modern industry and allows students the opportunity to design, program, and maintain a fully operational manufacturing system.
Students gain valuable hands-on learning experience and also see a working example of a modern automated environment with the capability of remote control and data acquisition via the internet. This system will support Profibus DP, TCP/IP Ethernet, and Remote I/O communication protocols in order to bridge the gap between the user and the machine. This system will use HMI (Human Machine Interface) for both data acquisition and control.
In conjunction with our Center for Rapid Product Realization, this facility is an important part of our concept-to-manufacturing capabilities.
