About Ronald Mau:
Ronald R. Mau holds a Ph.D. in business with a concentration in finance from the University of Kansas. Dr. Mau’s research interests include ownership and performance of firms heavily invested in human capital (knowledge based firms – i.e. engineering firms, management consultants), organizational and corporate governance, prediction markets, labor economics and real estate. In addition to his doctorate in business, Mau also holds an MBA from the University of Kansas. Dr. Mau has had several refereed articles published and made numerous professional presentations.
Dr. Mau is a registered professional engineer and holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in civil engineering from the University of Kansas. Prior to obtaining his doctorate, Dr. Mau worked as a project manager/geotechnical engineer for Terracon an Engineering News Record Top 100 Design Firm. As a consulting engineer Dr. Mau worked on a wide variety of projects ranging from residential developments, retail/shopping centers, industrial sites, and infrastructure projects.
Dr. Mau has also worked as an analyst/consultant for the Flint Hills Center for Public Policy. In this position he analyzed various tax proposals during the legislative session in order to estimate the potential tax revenues and the impact of the proposed tax change(s) on the Kansas economy as a whole and on industries/sectors of the economy.
Dr. Mau’s interest in prediction markets partially stems from his interest in sports. He is an avid sports fan and these interests resulted in the creation of his own firm in the early 1990’s (RRM Enterprises) which operated various fantasy sports leagues and published fantasy sports draft previews.
At the undergraduate level Dr. Mau has most recently taught courses in construction accounting and finance and is the Director of the Masters of Construction Management program where he has taught such topics as cost accounting, statistical applications and models, real estate development/financing and marketing. In the past he has taught and assisted in a variety of courses such as soil mechanics, foundation engineering, environmental pollution and control, surveying, construction equipment/fleet management, corporate finance, asset management, capital budgeting, and mergers and acquisitions.
Dr. Mau utiizes his financial economics expertise and engineering/construction related experience to solve current business problems related to the performance of knowledge based firms, compensation/incentive issues and organizational structure. Additionally, Dr. Mau applies this same expertise to analyze and solve project specific finance and engineering issues.
