During my undergraduate studies at WCU my dream job would be to become a faculty member and clinical audiologist here at this university. I was given that opportunity in 2002 and love being here! I teach Introduction to Audiology, Acoustics, Sign Language and Aural Rehabilitation, provide hearing screening opportunities for students, perform diagnostics and hearing aid fittings/orientation in the clinic and travel throughout several counties working with the school systems. I am also the Speech and Hearing Clinic director. I recently co-authored a book with Dr. Georgia Hambrecht titled Clinical Observation – A Guide for Students in Speech, Language, and Hearing (2011) which was a wonderful experience allowing us the opportunity to share our thoughts and practices regarding clinic observations.
Some of the most interesting aspects of my job include being involved in student recruitment and our student organization (NSSLHA), advising, working with clinic sites, and student placements for clinic! I enjoy advising at both the undergraduate and graduate level because it gives me the opportunity to meet lots of students. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have regarding our program at Western Carolina.
In my time away from work I enjoy spending time with my family (husband, Merritt and two daughters, Sydney and Olivia). We are fortunate to live in a great area with lots of outdoor activities. Western is a great campus located in a beautiful area of Western North Carolina. Come see what we have to offer!
