Thomas Salzman, Director: School of Stage & Screen at Western Carolina University. He recently was chair of the Performing Arts Department at the College of Santa Fe, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Previous to that assignment, Professor Salzman was the General Manager/ Artistic Associate for the Caldwell Theatre Company in Boca Raton, FL. At the Caldwell, he designed the lighting for over 70 productions, including eight world premiers. His work garnered him two Best Lighting Designer Carbonell Awards, South Florida’s answer to the "Tony" Awards. He continues to be their Resident Lighting Designer as he has been for the past fifteen years. Other design credits included Coconut Grove Playhouse, Cleveland Play House, City Theatre Company (Miami), Playhouse Square Foundation (Cleveland), Florida Philharmonic, Heinz USA, PPG Inc., G.E., and others. He is a member of United Scenic Artist local #829, as well as an Equity Stage Manager. He has taught at Penn State University and the University of Miami. Salzman holds an MFA from Carnegie Mellon University. He grew up outside Cleveland, Ohio, but his career has taken him all over the country including stints in New York, Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Miami, Richmond, New Orleans and now Cullowhee.
