As a result of Western Carolina University's program prioritization process, the Master of Music degree program and the M.A.Ed. program in Music Education have been scheduled for discontinuation. As a result, we are no longer accepting applications for these programs.
All currently enrolled full-time students will be developing individualized plans to allow them to complete their degrees by Spring 2015. Please contact Dr. Will Peebles, director, School of Music at 828-227-7242 for academic advising related to the termination of these programs.
If you have general concerns and questions, information can be found on the Program Prioritization process at programprioritization.wcu.edu.
Western’s School of Music offers the Master of Music degree in Performance. A live audition before a panel of music faculty is required. For further information about the M.M. program, please follow the link below:

In collaboration with the College of Education and Allied Professions, the School of Music also offers programs in Music Education, for which an interview is required. The M.A.Ed. degree is open to students who have an undergraduate degree in music education. Students with an undergraduate degree in music but not in music education may apply for the Post Baccalaureate Certificate, which will prepare them for initial licensure in the State of North Carolina. Depending upon the student’s prior study and experience, undergraduate pre-requisites may be specified for Post Baccalaureate Certificate candidates.
