Calendar of Music Events
Greetings from beautiful Cullowhee, North Carolina!
As Director of the School of Music at Western Carolina University, I welcome you to our website and hope that you will explore it thoroughly. WCU is indeed in a beautiful location, but it’s much more than just pretty scenery – the School of Music is a vibrant community of faculty, staff, and students who collaborate and interact to learn and cultivate this art form that we call music!
You will discover by reading the faculty biographies that my colleagues are among the best you will find anywhere. All active performers, researchers, composers, and scholars, they are dedicated to the success of our students in whichever field of music they choose to pursue. The School of Music is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) and has twice won the Outstanding Academic Unit Award at WCU.
Our facilities include the Coulter Music Building, the Belk Arts Wing, the Center for Applied Technology, and the outstanding Bardo Arts Center auditorium. Within these structures are found such things as a fully equipped recording studio, a recital hall, practice rooms of various sizes, technology classrooms and rehearsal spaces.
The School of Music presents over 200 concerts/recitals each year and collaborates with the Asheville Symphony Orchestra to present the Artist in Residence series, enabling wind/percussion students to perform with professional string players. Ensembles of every size – from woodwind trios to the 500 member Pride of the Mountains Marching Band, offer performance opportunities which embrace the spectrum of musical experience.
I hope you will not just visit us online, but will take the beautiful journey to our campus and experience WCU in person. We would love to show you around!
