Description: The Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program is offered at the graduate level. The TESOL program requires student to be accepted into the degree program (Masters of Arts in Teaching) to complete the alternative licensure courses; GRE scores, recommendation letters, and additional deparmtental requirements are nessasary when completing the graduate school's MAT application. The professional education course requirement for alternative licensure is composed of 33 credit hours. You may also be required to take some pre-requisite courses (0-25 hours) in your content area. After the completing of the TESOL program, you have the option of completing an additional 9 credit hours to be recommended for an M-level license along with having earned a Masters of Arts in Teaching degree.
Eligibility: Conferred baccalaureatte degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Complete online Eligibility/Pre-Evaluation form for program approval.
Results: Recomendation for a K-12 teaching license.
Instructional Format: Face to face, mostly at the Asheville campus. One full semester of student teaching is required, in the subject & grade of the licensure concentration, and should be fulfilled after all other course work is successfully finished. The internship is not a paid internship. However, lateral entry teachers may complete internship using their own classroom.
Admission: Rolling admission allows students to begin Spring, Summer, or Fall semester.
