The WCU Psychological Services Clinic is a not-for-profit training program for our students in Clinical and School Psychology graduate programs. Clinical services are provided by the graduate students under the close supervision of university faculty. These clinical services primarily involve comprehensive psychological assessment and consultation to schools and parents, and may also include counseling, therapy, and education interventions. The Psychological Services Clinic provides invaluable training opportunities for the psychology departments' graduate students as well as high quality psychological services for the community.
A variety of clients are served by the Psychological Services Clinic including:
- WCU students referred by the Disabilities Services Center
- WCU students referred by other faculty or self-referred
- Children and adults referred to the clinic by other professionals in the Western North Carolina region
- Children from the community referred by parents
- Adults from the community (self-referred)
- Special education assessments for contracted Charter Schools
Anyone interested in obtaining clinic services or referring a client for services may call the clinic at (828) 227-2473. Please provide your name, phone number, and the best time to be reached on the WCU Psychological Clinic's confidential voicemail. A graduate student is assigned each year to be the clinic coordinator under the supervision of Dr. Nathan Roth from the psychology department. This student will return your phone call and complete a very brief intake interview with you. Your case will be assigned to one of the students working in the clinic and that student will contact you directly regarding the services to be provided. If you have additional questions or concerns you can contact Dr. Nathan Roth directly at (828) 227-3368.
The basic fee charged for services provided by the Psychological Services Clinic is $300. However, these fees are flexible depending on family income and resources. The service fee is due following your initial visit and prior to testing. All money received through the clinic is used to further support graduate student training including keeping the clinic well stocked with up-to-date test instruments.
