Virus and Spyware Monitoring and Removal

Service Description

Symantec Endpoint Protection is a tool that identifies and stops viruses.  It will monitor your computer and alert you to any viruses it finds.

It is offered to the WCU community in a variety of ways:

Faculty/staff, WCU-owned computers: It is installed on university-owned computers attached to the WCU domain. These are the majority of faculty and staff computers (exclusions: Kimmel School, Hunter Library). This version is automatically updated with the latest virus information.

Students, personal computers: It can be downloaded to personal computers located on-campus. This version is automatically updated with the latest virus information.

Students/faculty/staff, personal computers off-campus: It can be downloaded to personal computers located off-campus. This version is not automatically updated with the latest virus information. You can manually configure it to receive updates via Symantec’s LiveUpdate server as often as you would like.

We do not currently have a tool specifically to monitor malware/spyware. We will do our best to help you remove any spyware/malware that you identify.

Service Availability

Symantec Endpoint Protection is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with the exception of scheduled maintenance.

Downloads are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with the exception of scheduled maintenance.

Installation appointments are available Monday-Friday, 8-5.

IT’s Role

Keep server running, make sure updates are in place, push any updates to appropriate clients.

Install on WCU-owned computers (except those at Kimmel School and Hunter Library).

Assist with any questions and/or problems regarding download and installation.

Virus/Spyware remediation on student computers and Residential Living staff computers
