Staff from several WCU departments attended the October 2010 meeting of the Mid-Atlantic Banner Users Group (MABUG), hosted by UNC-Wilmington, and shared processes developed and issues resolved related to the implementation of Banner Payroll and Identity Management. Diana Catley (Human Resources), Patti Johnson (IT Data Management), and Stan Hammer (Assistant CIO and Director of Application Development and Data Management) gave a presentation entitled “Coordinating Identity Management – A Partnership Between HR and IT” that focused on the collaboration between Human Resources and Information Technology in developing WCU’s Identity Management solution, and outlined the evolution of Active Directory/Email/INB accounts for employees.Sara Goodman (Systems Accounting) and Daniel Huss (IT Data Management) presented Western’s approach to Work Study employment entitled “Work Study Employment Process: Fill the Gap.” This session focused on the WCU specific interface created to reduce data entry by automating HR, Timesheet, and Payroll information upon the initial entry of Financial Aid assigned jobs. Sara Goodman did a second presentation entitled “Decentralized (yet centralized) EPAFs” that explained WCU's business process of using Electronic Personnel Action Forms within key business units to aid in the overall speed to market and accuracy of various types of contracts and payment activities. Kay Turpin (Institutional Planning & Effectiveness) presented “Attacking Addresses at WCU (and smaller battles with name changes)” that described Western’s collaboration among many departments to simplify our address and name policies, as well as reduce the number of address codes in Banner. Also attending the conference were Larry Hammer and Frank Hachadurian (Registrar’s Office).
