Agency Description:

A nonprofit organization, Disability Partners works with individuals and the community to enhance, advocate for and support personal choices, independent living and community inclusion for people with disabilities. They offer four core services: information referral, peer counseling, independent living skills classes, and advocacy. Home care services are available through Medicaid and private pay. Kids on the Block puppet program preforms skits in local schools to teach children about disability awareness, differences and social concerns.  The CyberPals program places low cost donated, refurbished computers in homes of people with disabilities as well as providing basic computer training.

Training:

6-8 hours of training are required for both projects.

Time Commitment:

For our puppet shows, Pathways needs volunteers who are available one to two hours a month during the school day, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteers for CyberPals are needed 2-3 hours a week.

Skills, Experience, and Special Requirements:

Individuals with computer repair skills or computer knowledge to train consumers on internet basics are needed for CyberPals. Kids on the Block needs people with communication and some theater arts skills. Therapeutic recreation and related skills are beneficial in working with people with disabilities.

Volunteer Involvement:

Volunteers in the CyberPals program are needed to assist in recycling of donated computers. Also needed are volunteers to help train people to use computers. Volunteers in the Kids on the Block will perform rehearsed skits at local schools.
