Agency Description:

Hands On Asheville-Buncombe is the volunteer center of United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County.  Hands on Asheville-Buncombe brings people together to strengthen our community through meaningful volunteer action.  We support people looking for volunteer opportunities, and support agencies or schools that need volunteers in order to complete their mission.

We engage volunteers by:

1)Connecting individuals or groups looking for volunteer opportunities to our community-based partners who need volunteers.

a. This can be done via our website, where volunteers will find a database of over 200+ opportunities...it's a match-making service for doing good in the community!

2)Recruiting and managing volunteers for our own Hands On managed project opportunities that benefit nonprofits and schools.

3)Managing large scale service events such as MLK Day, Day of Caring, and the Back-to-School Supply Drive.

Training:

Depends on the volunteer opportunity and the agency served.  All Hands On
managed projects do not require prior training.

Time Commitment:

Most of our projects last 2-4 hours and are generally held on evenings and weekends. There is no need to make a long-term commitment, just sign up for a project that fits your interests and availability.

Skills, Experience, and Special Requirements:

Depends on the volunteer opportunity and agency served.  Hands On managed
projects are designed to fit a variety of skill levels; no previous experience
necessary for most projects.

Volunteer Involvement:

Students can participate in a variety of projects to support nonprofits throughout Buncombe county.
