WCU’s Academic Success Program’s Day of Service provides opportunities for students to become engaged and connected to the community around Western Carolina University. What started with a few local community service projects has evolved into a coordinated community-wide event that includes local non-profit agencies, local businesses, community members and WCU constituents. This dynamic Day of Service addresses the goals of the WCU Quality Enhancement Plan by engaging learning through experience.
ASP Commitment to Service:
Since 2004, ASP has incorporated service learning opportunities into its summer sessions. Students have volunteered at several different locations around Jackson County and have partnered with Walmart of Sylva for the last four years to co-host a carnival to raise funds for local agencies.
