School of Government Training and Technical Assistance
Each year the LGTP surveys public officials in the region, then works with the school to ensure that the training and technical assistance needs identified on the survey are met. Throughout the year the program assists with the planning, instructional design, marketing, and logistics for SOG events in western North Carolina (WNC).
WNC City and County Managers Association (WNCMA)
The WNCMA, an organization of public administrators in WNC, meets quarterly to share information, learn about trends in public administration, and study regional issues. In addition to designing programs and engaging speakers, the program maintains the association’s mailing list, publicizes association meetings, and manages its finances.
Regional Workshops and Conferences
The LGTP partners with regional organizations and state entities to design workshops that address issues and challenges in the Western region. It also plans and delivers regional and statewide conferences and video conferences.
Mountain Landscapes Initiative
The program provided technical support to the Southwestern Commission’s “Mountain Landscapes Initiative,” a seven-county initiative that resulted in a “Toolbox” of best practices for responsible development in the mountain region. The MLI is a long-range project of the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina that will assist citizens and communities across the region as they plan for growth.
Political Science and Public Affairs Internship Program
The program director assists undergraduate and graduate students in finding public sector internships that connect their academic experience to real-world practice.
